Please inform readers of the true drawbacks and pluses of reviewed games. Nobody likes to spend $70 on badly developed software!
What I like most about the 3DO system, is the graphics capability and sound effects. The games seem to transport the player into another reality, due to the great sounds and 3 dimensional capability. Also the expandability is very greatly appreciated, since the machine can be expanded in future generations to match other game machines. My objections are that the price point for the basic hardware is just too high. It is out of reach for most consumers on the market.
Also I read an article in the Wall Street Journal in which Trip Hawkins was antagonizing programmers by charging them a fee to develop software. Mr. Hawkins cannot expect the system to be successful if he alienates the software developers. These creative people are the ones which will make the machine viable. He must gain their confidence, so that they will develop exciting software which will entice other developers to jump on the bandwagon.
Secondly, the reaction time to controller inputs is very slow. Game playability must be improved to insure many hours of fun. The controller seems to work in slow motion in relation to the characters on the screen. This problem is very evident in Way of the Warrior. And lastly, the software developers shouldn╒t announce delivery dates when they can╒t meet them. This misleads and leads to disgruntled buyers and makes them lose faith in the system.
Keep up the good work 3. Us older players appreciate your honest and straight forward approach.
